What is UNIMA?

The International Union of Puppets ( UNIMA ), the world's oldest theatre organization, is an official NGO partner of UNESCO. It is a signatory to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Coming from all over the world, its members contribute to the development and dissemination of puppetry arts.

My voluntary investment within UNIMA:

Elected to the UNIMA Executive Committee since 2021, I chaired its Europe Commission until 2025.

I am serving a second 4-year term as Treasurer and co-chair of the Constitutional Commission.

I have also been an elected international councilor to THEMAA, the French national center of UNIMA, since 2015.

Treasurer of UNIMA:

- Financial, administrative and legal coordination of UNIMA in conjunction with the President and the Secretary General.

- Human resources management with the Secretary General.

- Setting up and managing an international working group on the search for cultural funding.

- Administrative coordination of the Artists of Hope: Gaza project.

2026: UNIMA represents the organization at UNESCO during the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Diversity. Yaya Coulibaly will be welcomed to Charleville-Mézières for World Puppetry Day.

2025: UNIMA's representation at the Chengdu International Puppet Festival (China).

2025: UNIMA's representation at UNESCO during the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Diversity and at the 5th CSO (Civil Society Organisations) Forum.

Chairman of the UNIMA Europe Commission:

2025: THEMAA representation at the UNIMA Congress in Chuncheon (South Korea). Participation in the ASSITEJ "Bright Generation" Congress. UNIMA representation at the Virovitica Festival (Croatia). UNIMA representation at a preparatory meeting of Eastern European countries for Mondiacult 2025. Follow-up with Belarusian puppeteers and cultural actors after the dissolution of their national center.

2024: UNIMA will represent the organization at the Puppet Festivals in Chicago (USA), Montreal (Quebec), Pilsen (Czech Republic), and Stockholm (Sweden). They will also visit and assess the puppet collections at the Kharkiv Puppet Theatre (Ukraine). UNIMA will represent the organization at the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Diversity. UNIMA will also represent the organization at the International Conference of NGOs.

2023: UNIMA's representation at the puppet festivals of Denpasar (Bali), Split (Croatia), Maribor (Slovenia), Charleville-Mézières (France) and Prague (Czech Republic).

2023: Expertise, co-organisation and hosting for the arrival of the Kharkiv Academy of Arts as part of World Puppetry Arts Day, with the aim of a twinning between the City of Charleville-Mézières and that of Kharkiv to promote Puppetry Arts and solidarity with Ukraine.

2022: UNIMA's representation at the Puppet Festivals in Pilzen (Czech Republic) and Chuncheon (South Korea).

2022: Co-piloting the "professionalisation" working group within the EVOC project to develop a common reflection on the professional structuring of puppeteers at the European level (with the support of ERASMUS+).

2022: Expertise to award the Michael Meschke Prize to Iryna Rudenko and her son Roman, director of the Mariupol Puppet Theatre for the preservation and renewal of the Puppet Arts and organisation of the official ceremony at the Gadagne Museums (Lyon) in 2023.

2022: Expertise for AVIAMA (International Association of Puppetry Friendly Cities) for the support of the puppet theatre in Chernihiv, Ukraine.

2021: UNIMA's performance at the Charleville-Mézières puppet festival (France).

2021: Co-organization and hosting of the arrival of two Afghan puppeteers at the World Puppet Theatre Festival in Charleville-Mézières.

International Advisor of THEMAA - UNIMA France:

2020-21: General coordination of 21ResiliArt UNIMA roundtables, in conjunction with UNESCO to collect testimonies of artists' resilience during the Covid-19 pandemic.

2018: Member of an international jury chaired by Margareta Sörenson for a call for submissions from young authors.
